Golfing that Made The Difference

Golfing that Made The Difference

It’s no secret that my love for Rotary is unbound, and 80% of content I push through my social networks will definitely have to be about Rotary. Well, this one is no different.

Rotary is an organisation of people who’ve come to make a difference in the world. We do this through projects that we initiate and that major impact on the local communities we serve. Every Rotary clubs worldwide have a project that strives to address a problem in the society. But how do we succeed to do such projects? Where do we even get the money?

First, si pesa ya NYS (lol!). 😂🤣🤣

Teke Teke Charity Golf Tournament 2019

Rotary clubs come up with various fundraising initiatives whereby the money raised goes towards those particular projects. One fundraising initiative in particular happened in January 2019 – The Teke Teke Charity Golf Tournament – organised by my club, the Rotary Club of Nairobi Madaraka (alias Team Teke Teke).

The objective of the tournament is to raise funds towards Rotary Madaraka’s Education Fund. The fund will go towards providing an education to a needy child through scholarships, classes construction etc.

117 golfers participated in the tourney and braved the rain that poured down the better part of Friday. Teeing off at Hole No. 1, they were walking and chanting among themselves in teams of four or three (call four ball or three ball respectively).

In the evening, the players, Rotarians from the club and other invited guests gathered in the Royal Nairobi Golf clubhouse for prize giving. Despite the harsh weather throughout the day, a number of golfers emerged best among their peers. But in the very end, every golfer was a winner and hence, a child now has an opportunity to gain an education.
